Spragga Benz Biography...
Jamaican Dancehall DJ Spragga Benz first rose to prominence in the early '90s with a series of hits that earned him a major respect in the worldwide network of Jamaican dancehall culture. Spragga was born Carlton Grant in Eastern Kingston's Southside, and earned the nickname "Spaghetti" as a youth because of his slim build; it would later mutate into his stage name, Spragga. He became a disc selector assistant for Ricky Villa and the L.A. Benz sound system, and first tried his hand at toasting in 1992 on a dare from Buju Banton, who needed B-sides for some dubplates he was cutting for the sound system. Spragga tossed some lyrics off the top of his head, and the response from the studio onlookers was so great that Benz soon cut two A-side dubplates of his own, "Love Mi Gun" and the lascivious "Jack It Up." The songs quickly made him an underground sensation, and soon multiple labels and producers were clamoring for his services. He scored breakout hits with "Could a Deal" (produced by Winston Riley) and "Girls Hooray" (Steely & Clevie), not to mention "Jack It Up," a major success once it was released to a wider audience.

Benz was one of the hottest new artists on the dancehall scene, and consolidated his momentum with a series of well-received appearances at festival concerts over 1993, most notably his first ever live stage appearanc at 'Reggae Sunsplash 93' and electrifying sets at 'Champions In Action' and 'Sting 93' with over 30,000 ppl. During the next two years, he released a solid string of hit singles:"Girls Horay", "Who Next," " Moving Up The Line" "No Fun Thing," "Look A Gal Man","Mark Death," "Things a Gwaan," "Jump Up and Swear."and many more Many of those tracks were included on his first album, 'Jack It Up' (VP Records), which was issued in 1994.The ragged-voiced Spragga had made a name for himself recording conscious yet unflinchingly brutal dancehall . In the wake of his Jamaican success, Capitol Records offered Benz a major-label deal later that year. His second album, 'Uncommonly Smooth', appeared in 1995 and harbored distinct crossover aspirations; the Chevelle Franklyn duet, "A-1 Lover," was aimed at R&B audiences and the cover of "Spanish Harlem" featured the original artist Ben E. King..The single "Good Day'was remixed by KRS-One

Benz returned to Jamaica and spent the next few years as a singles-only artist, also collaborating with rappers like Wyclef Jean and lil'Bow Wow . He continued to find success in his homeland with tracks like "Car Crash," "Born Good Looking," "Funny Guy Thing," "Dolly House,",'Some Bwoy", "Machine Gun Kelly," ' Wi Nuh Like',,"The Test' among others. In 1999, was released a colab album with Spragga and Beenie Man titled Two Badd DJs (MadHouse Rec), and topped the Jamaican charts with the single "She Nuh Ready Yet (Hype Up)." which also appeared on his long-incubating third album, Fully Loaded in 2000. It featured the single and video 'Wey Ya Say Star", duets with Lady Saw ("Buckshot") and Foxy Brown ("Too Stoosh"), and production work from house legend Todd Terry, among many others. Benz made his motion-picture debut that same year in Brooklyn Babylon, and in 2001 played a leading role in the Certified Platinum gangster film Shottas. Also in 2001, he returned Foxy Brown's favor by guesting on her hit single "Oh Yeah," teamed with Elephant Man for the Jamaican smash "Warriors Cause.",and dropped the bomb 'Rasta Run The World' In 2002, he issued his fourth album, Thug Nature, which featured extensive supporting contributions from, Sugar Slick, Assassin, Briggy Benz,Greg Hinds, and his stable of up-and-coming talent, the Red Square Crew.

Spragga remained prolific with hits like 'Turn Me On remix' ft. Kevin Lyltle' 'RunTings','Gonna Fight' ,"Done See it", 'Set The Order', 'Tiny Tot',and more. He toured extensivley with the Ghetto Youths Camp. In late 2010 Spragga released 'Shotta Culture" An intense, deeply introspective album from an artist who has seen a lot. Spragga Benz’s Shotta Culture has been described as a remarkably invigorating contemporary dancehall album as well as a sobering reflection on the seemingly inescapable cycles of street violence in Jamaica. Salaam Remi produced the entirety of Shotta Culture and features Marcia Griffiths, Stephen Marley Nas, 2Chains and many other big names, It include the single and video "Livication" which has been described as one of the greatest tributes ever recorded.

Spragga's hit making continued with tracks like
'Lah La Lah' produced by Stephen Marley, 'Call Upon Jah' ft. Sean Paul, 'S.W.A' (sleep with angels) 'She Love Me',ect. In 2013 armed with all this history and with an immense catalog of music Spragga brings to you his latest mixtape ;The Afrikan Vibes mixed...The Exclusive..."Spragga Benz Mi Name mixtape" which is guaranteed to keep your party vibe flowing for the whole duration with features from top Jamaican Dj 'Busy Signal', top UK house singer 'Victoria Aitken'..top Soca singers Allison Hines and Mr Dale..and much more,.
